New Brie Interview
-Posted by: Quivi
When did you first realize you wanted to become an entertainer? I realized this was something I wanted to pursue, while I was in the 2nd grade. My class was going to do a Thanksgiving play. I wanted to get the part of the Indian that chases the turkey! You were able to choose which part you wanted, but you had to turn in a permission slip. So, I told my mom I had to be the first person to turn it in because I had to get this part. I just ran across a stage, chasing this little turkey. Afterwards, moms were coming up to my mom saying wow. I took that role very seriously! So, my mom thought this was something I would like to get into. But, at first I was really shy, so it took me awhile before I was able to come out of my shell.
Which song off your album has the most meaning to you? The song closest to my heart is called, “Ugly”. ... Read More ...

Kids unite to save owls before a pancake house flattens them
-Posted by: Quivi
Imagine if the precocious secret agents in "Spy Kids'' had been deployed on a mundane mission to terminate zealous developers, and you get the general drift of "Hoot.'' Fun to watch although falling short of a real hoot, this latest in a barrage of family movies largely succeeds at keeping the kiddies entertained and their parents from nodding off.
To its credit, the film does nothing to dilute the save-the-Earth-and-every-creature-on-it message of Carl Hiaasen's ingeniously plotted award-winning children's book. It's amazing the best-selling author let Hollywood anywhere near one of his novels after the disastrous screen adaptation of his "Strip Tease.'' Hiaasen would have been within his rights to insist on a clause prohibiting Demi Moore from being cast as the mom in "Hoot.'' Three young environmentalists instigate various shenanigans to prevent a pancake franchise from bulldozing over burrows housing the most adorable little owls outside of Harry Potter's birdcage. ... "Hoot" star claims no interest in a boyfriend
-Posted by: Quivi
WIStv.com reports Brie Larson is sweet 16 and happily single. Even though she co-stars with two young hotties in "Hoot," boys are not on Larson's radar.
She says she's never had a boyfriend because it's not something that interests her. Larson says relationships are "a lot of work," not to mention the fact that she's "not ready to try and please somebody else."
Larson would rather concentrate on her acting and singing careers. "Hoot" opened Friday.

Watching With Kids in Mind: The Hoot
-Posted by: Quivi
Hoot (PG, 105 minutes) - This wry family film has enough mystery and edge to keep attentive kids 8 and older entertained. Even better, its middle-school hero takes a stand on something, even though he knows it might make him an outcast at a school where he already suffers bullying as the "new guy." Based on a book for young readers by Carl Hiaasen and directed by Wil Shriner, "Hoot" occasionally falls short in terms of production values but rarely drops the ball in humor, storytelling or acting. The 8-and-older suggestion reflects scenes of pretty rough bullying and equally emphatic self-defense, with punching, choking, head-banging and an audible nose-break. There are icky-scary scenes with alligators hiding in porta-potties ... Read More ...

'Hoot' has its heart in the right place
-Posted by: Quivi
This SHOULD be a real hoot: A film based on a Carl Hiaasen novel, produced by Jimmy Buffett and featuring songs by him, with both Florida boys appearing in small roles.
Unfortunately, the environmentally conscious family film "Hoot" is more of a twitter, kids taking on corporate callousness in what's meant to be a lighthearted tale but turns out lightweight and bland.
"Hoot" carries a positive message of social responsibility, yet its three teen heroes and their quest to save endangered owls just aren't interesting enough to rally behind for an hour and a half. ... Read More ...
